The heart of any Indel control system is at least one CPU board, the “master”. It is responsible for each and every machine sequence to be performed. The peripherals (motors, inputs, outputs etc) are connected, depending on the type of CPU board used, either directly to the board or via separate fieldbus slaves. Accordingly, two fundamentally different types of architecture may be distinguished: control systems with fieldbus and control systems without fieldbus.
Verteiltes Steuerungssystem mit Feldbus

The CPU board drives up to 256 slaves via a fieldbus, and these in turn control the peripherals. Features of a distributed control system:
| HMI | PC-based (Windows, Linux, …), any programming language, any framework, industrial panel, … | |
| Service-HMI | e.g. for service engineers; hand-held device or smartphone based | |
| CPU-Board | Up to 2.2 GHz, 8 cores, 1 GB RAM, 1ns for double-float multiplication | |
| Fieldbus | Indel GinLink – 1 gigabit Ethernet fieldbus. Other bus systems can also be integrated | |
| Fieldbus slaves | Up to 256 slaves: servo drives, I/O systems and motion boards can be combined as required | |
| Peripherals | All common types of axis, analogue and digital sensors and actuators can be connected | |
| Additions | Customer-specific extensions can be developed on request |
Compact control system without fieldbus

A compact control system does not involve fieldbus slaves. Peripherals are connected directly to the CPU board. This exerts no influence on the programming of the HMI and sequence control software. It is thus possible to change over to a CPU board with fieldbus capability at any time if necessary. Features of a compact control system:
| HMI | PC-based (Windows, Linux, …), any programming language, any framework, industrial panel, … | |
| Service-HMI | e.g. for service engineers; hand-held device or smartphone based | |
| CPU-Board | Responsible for real-time control sequences. Up to 600 MHz, 512 MB RAM | |
| Peripherals | All common types of axis, analogue and digital sensors and actuators can be connected | |
| Additions | Customer-specific extensions can be developed on request |
