InfoLink, the predecessor to the current GinLink technology, is configured as a ring with a central fieldbus controller (CPU board), to which all process data is available in a central process image.

The fieldbus is operated from a hardware sequencer that stores the current process image in a dual-port RAM and assures hard real-time behaviour. This DP RAM forms the interface between the processor system and the fieldbus periphery.

The optical link reduces installation costs and improves electromagnetic compatibility. A 1 mm thick plastic fibre is used that can be placed by hand.
